Having beaten Peterborough - City were rewarded by a visit from Manchester United in the Watney Cup - including stars such as Denis Law, George Best and Bobby Charlton. City play well earning a 1-1 draw with a Chris Chilton goal, but lose 4-3 on penalties. The game was also notable as the first match in English football to be settled on penalties, with City `keeper Ian McKechnie becoming the first goalkeeper to save a penalty, and also the first to miss one - after his spot-kick hit the bar | more info |

Chilton reaches 200 goals for City |

Chris Chilton becomes the first (and as yet only) player to score 200 goals for Hull City - a record unlikely to be broken. This comes in a 2-1 away win at Vicarage Road against Watford, in which Chilton and his formidable strike-partner Ken Wagstaff both make the scoresheet. Chilton is eventually sold to Coventry in early 1971/72 season after reaching a club record 222 goals. | more info |

Chilton scored 222 goals in 477 league and cup appearances - a club record which should never be broken. Manager Ken Houghton, head coach Wilf McGuinness and chief scout Andy Davidson are all sacked by chairman Bob Chapman after a string of poor results. The move comes days after Houghton is told to trim down his staff and win as many games as possible. The mood changes after a 7-2 defeat by Brentford however.
