City further FA Cup pedigree with a Semi Final against Arsenal

After victories against Plymouth, Blackpool, Man City and Newcastle - City put aside an otherwise dismal season and string together another great Cup run. In the match played at Elland Road in front of 47,000 - a thrilling match ended in a 2-2 draw against a team including Englands most expensive footballer David Jack. Sadly City were beaten 1-0 in the replay 4 days later at Villa Park by a controversial goal from Jack more info

Relegation to Tier 3

Despite a club-record Cup run, and a final league match victory - City are relegated after a mostly dismal season under Bill McCracken. After early promise, the season descended into a slump down the table, and included heavy defeats such as a 7-1 loss at West Brom. Despite this, McCracken is retained as Manager and almost wins promotion the following season more info

McCracken tenders resignation as manager

After a directors meeting the previous night - McCracken resigns from Hull City in a meeting with the chairman. McCracken does not discuss his reasons for leaving, but states that he intends to stay in football.

Haydn Green takes on role as manager

After resigning from Ebbw Vale, Mr Haydn Green is appointed as new manager of Hull City. His term brings almost immediate success as the Tigers win their first ever promotion - as Champions, in 1933.

Despite losing away at Rochdale, City are crowned Champions of Division 3 North, and win promotion back to Division 2 more info

Haydn Green resigns as manager

After almost 3 years in the role, Green hands in his resignation in a surprise move. He leaves with the best wishes from the club after a successful spell as manager, leaving directors to step in and manage the team until a new manager can be found.

Team captain John (Jack) Hill is appointed as manager

In a unanimous vote from the directors, popular captain Jack Hill is appointed as manager of Hull City. Hill, a former England international captain, had joined as a player from Bradford City in Novermber 1931.

Jack Hill resigns after a poor run of results

Jack Hill resigns from City after a poor string of performances leaves the club at the bottom of Division 2. Hill attributes the decline to injuries and poor mishaps. Hill returns to the club in the late 40s for a few years, to manage the City scouting team

Menzies returns for second spell as manager

Following his resignation from Doncaster Rovers, David Menzies returns as Hull City manager for the second time after leaving 15 years earlier. Menzies had brought success to Doncaster on a small budget, which appealed to the Hull City board at the time.

Manager David Menzies dies suddenly

After suffering a heart attack at his home, manager David Menzies passes away. At the time City were still the only unbeaten team in the league - a record which ended in their next game.

Ernest Blackburn taken on role as manager after a long search

Citys new manager is Ernest Blackburn, after he is released from his contract at Wrexham. The former Aston Villa and Bradford City fullback had been at Wrexham since 1932.

City break goalscoring record with win over Carlisle

City hammer 11 goals past Carlisle United to break the club record for goals-scored. The Anlaby Road crowd saw goals from 7 different players as the Tigers broke all records for the weekend across the Leagues.
