City, in what turns out to be their final competitive match at Anlaby Road - end up losing 0-8 in the Northern Regional League to Middlesbrough (0-5 at half-time).

Club leaves Anlaby Road ground

After financial difficulties imposed by World War II, the club relinquish their share in Anlaby Road Ground - selling the stands to the Cricket Club. The club promise they will be ready to go for post-war fixtures at a new facility on Boothferry Road.

Ernest Blackburn confirms his intent to leave Hull City

With the club being the subject of a winding-up order after struggling to survive during the World War 2 years, Blackburn confirms he will leave the club once the financial issues are resolved.

New Hull City club appoints Major Frank Buckley as Manager

After the first board meeting of the newly-formed Hull City football club, it is announced that Major Frank Buckley will manage the team. The club had reformed after a winding-up of the old club after 42 years of existence, but retained the old club name, and playing colours. Buckley pledges to get Hull City back into the 2nd Division.

First game at Boothferry Park

In front of 25,586 spectators, City play their first game against rivals Lincoln City at their brand new Boothferry Park ground. The game finishes in a goalless draw for Frank Buckleys men. The match programme contains a vision for the future of the stadium - but in reality material shortages after the war meant this was never achieved fully. more info

Raich Carter signs for Hull City

Derby County agree to let England International Raich Carter sign for City - for a fee of £6000. Carter is signed as player-assistant manager, and makes no further appearances for England

Mjr Frank Buckley announces resignation at end of season

Citing differences of opinion on the conduct of the club, Frank Buckley hands in his resignation to the directors of Hull City - stating his intent to resign at the end of the playing season. Subsequent reports confirm he will become manager at Leeds United. Trainer George Lax takes over as interim charge of the team until the end of the season.

Raich Carter revealed as Player-Secretary-Manager

Confirmation that once the tenure of Frank Buckley ends on 2nd May - Raich Carter will become Player-Secretary-Manager of Hull City. Carter was formerly Player-Assistant Manager, and comes with a huge sporting pedigree, and widely regarded as one of the finest players in the game

Record attendance at Boothferry Park for FA Cup QF match

An attendance of 55,049 greeted the players for the FA Cup Quarter Final tie at Bootherry Park between Hull City and Manchester United. United came away winners with a 1-0 victory. Queues for tickets filled the Boothferry Park entrance yard. more info

City Crowned Div3(N) Champions

After a record-breaking season, City are crowned Division 3 (Northern Section) Champions under Player/Manager Raich Carter. Rotherham provided the closest competition to City in a 2-club monopoly season. Promotion was sealed against Stockport County with a resounding 6-1 victory more info
